Head Telecommunicator Job Summary Answers all incoming 911 and non-emergency calls to assess situations and dispatch all essential resources; performs a variety of data entry and technical work and keeping official records.
Maintains high level of confidentiality, and reviews confidential data through a computer system.
The work is performed under the supervision and direction according to the Police Department's rank structure.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position.

Employee shall perform other duties and functions as required or assigned.
Works on shifts to monitor telephones, radio, and CCTV in the dispatch center.
Provides dispatch and communications support to police, fire, emergency, and other related services.
Monitors multiple emergency radio frequencies to include police, fire, EMS, etc.
Operates radios as needed and assists in radio communications.
Assists visitors to Department with information and directions.
Monitors jail area, parking lots, and sally port via video surveillance cameras and recording for proper conduct, safety, and medical or other needs; monitors interior/exterior city properties as required.
Completes and maintains CJIS certification for entry and inquiry.
Uses Computer Aided Dispatch program to enter, view, modify, and properly document all calls for service.
Prepares, maintains, and completes a variety of reports and forms for various entities, both internal and external.
Maintains and stays current on certifications by participating in on-going training.
Coordinates and supervises the training, assignment, development of telecommunicators.
Performs routine dispatch equipment maintenance or notifies appropriate repair personnel.
Shall obtain Communications Training Officer Certification and/or P.
O.
S.
T.
Instructor Certification upon request.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment while maintaining quality of services and professional relationships.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of approved principles, practices and procedures of police work.
Comprehensive knowledge of pertinent Federal and State laws and municipal ordinances.
Comprehensive knowledge of the geography of the City and location of important buildings.
Ability to analyze complex police problems and to adopt effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances.
Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to prepare and present detailed reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, associates, law enforcement agency representatives, elected officials, business owners, medical personnel, court personnel and the general public.
Working knowledge of approved principles and practices of Municipal court proceedings; comprehensive knowledge of pertinent Federal and State laws and municipal ordinances Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Education and
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent For full-time employees:
work experience preferred, but not required For part-time employees:
one year minimum work experience in law enforcement as a dispatcher/telecommunicator.
Ability to become deputized as a Special Circuit Court Clerk with St.
Louis County.
Ability to obtain REJIS Certification.
Ability to obtain Notary Public.

Work is performed at a high-call volume, emergency dispatch environment, where there is limited opportunity for physical movement, and the Telecommunicator must remain alert and responsive while observing computer display screens for uninterrupted periods of time; may be subject to extended work periods without relief, periods of high-call volume and stressful situations.
Special Requirements Valid driver's license.
Continuing Training Education for POST Environmental Adaptability Some tasks risk exposure to temperature extremes, toxic agents, smoke, wet or damp conditions, disease/pathogens, electrical currents, traffic hazards, explosives , noise, dust, irate individuals, intimidation and violence which may cause injury and/or death.
